Counselling can be a big step, and it can be uncomfortable. We all struggle with things that we do not want to share with others and often the fear of talking about these things makes it worse. At ASSIST We use a non-judgemental, open and inclusive approach. Regardless of your background, your current situation or concerns, we are happy to hear from you.
We have all been in a place where we know we need to do something, but we are not certain we are ready. To help, we have shared a bit about what you can expect. We hope this helps to reduce the anxiety that comes with trying something different.
The first step is reaching out to connect with us. This can be done in several ways.
1) Book online: Click the button below and select an office and the type of appointment you want. You might start with an initial phone call, or select the type of appointment you want. You will receive a confirmation letter and access to our client portal that will give you other resources and options.
2) Phone or Text: Call us at (705) 380- 3450 or (705) 716-0749. The receptionist can book an appointment over the phone. If it is after hours you can leave a message and we will get back to you.
3) Email: Send an email asking for an appointment and letting us know what times you are available. We will get back to you. geoff@ASSISTcounselling.ca or michelle.k.ainsworth@gmail.com or stuart@ASSISTcounselling.ca
In our first meeting, we will ask a series of gentle questions aimed at developing a good understanding of how we can help you meet your goals. This is a relaxed, self-driven process. You do not have to talk about things you do not feel comfortable about. We will always meet you where you are and work with you in a way that you feel comfortable. At the end of our first session, you will have a fully developed wellness or recovery plan and have goals for the work ahead.
Our wellness or recovery plan will be based on your circumstances and your goals, we will select a helping strategy that is right for you. ASSIST uses a variety of approaches that have been proven to be safe and effective. Certain approaches are more effective for certain problems. We will help you pick the right strategy for you. If we can't help you quickly and effectively, we will connect you to someone who can.
At ASSIST you can trust that your information will be kept completely confidential. We will discuss confidentiality in our first meeting and decide who we can share information with. You are always in control of your information. Our files are stored according to the highest Personal Health Information Privacy Standards.
Often, a good wellness recovery plan requires us to work with others. Whether you need us to work with your doctor, health care practitioner, lawyer, employer or others, we are ready and able to help. Depending on the package you select (See fees and billing) we can provide reports, letters, assessments, consultations, case-management supports, and care coordination.
If you have worked with us in the past, you can reactivate your account quickly and easily. We are always happy to pick up where we left off, or help with a new issue. Often it is easier to reach out if you already have a good relationship. Don't let gains fall to the wayside. A quick phone call, email or booster session to help maintain your progress.
Depending on the type of treatment, you may be required to work on your goals between sessions. This can help you make bigger changes. ASSIST provides free apps, online resources, workbooks, handouts and other resources that can guide you through homework activities.
